Janakpur Royals have won two consecutive matches under the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Janakpur defeated Karnali Yaks by 8 wickets at the Tribhuvan University Ground in Kirtipur on Monday.
Earlier, Janakpur defeated Biratnagar Kings by 8 wickets in the first match.Janakpur achieved the target of 142 runs set by Karnali in 15.1 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Captain Anil Kumar Sah scored a half-century in Karnali’s victory. He scored 61 runs not out. He hit 6 fours and 3 sixes in 41 balls. Similarly, Jimmy Neesham scored 16 runs not out, hitting 2 fours and 1 six in 8 balls.
Another opener, Asif Sheikh, scored 36 runs. He hit 2 fours and 2 sixes in 29 balls. He was caught by Karnali’s Mausam Dhakal from Dev Khanal.
Lahiru Milantha, batting at number three, scored 24 runs off 13 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes before being caught LBW by Zeeshan Maqsood.
Earlier, Karnali, who had won the toss and batted first, scored 43 runs in the last two overs to score 141 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.Arjun Gharti, who was run out with the last two balls remaining, scored 33 runs in 22 balls and Sompal Kami scored 29 runs not out in 13 balls.
Arjun had bowled 22 runs to Janakpur’s Harsh Thakar in the 19th over. He hit two fours and two sixes for that and took two runs once. In the last over, captain Sompal bowled 21 runs to Jimmy Neesham. Sompal hit three fours and a six.
Arjun and Sompal had a 56-run partnership for the seventh wicket.Karnali had made a slow start. They had scored 96 runs in 18 overs and lost 6 wickets.Opener Dev Khanal could only score one run in five balls before being bowled by Lalit Rajbanshi on the first ball of the second over.
His opening partner, Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan, could not score more than 14 runs. He hit 3 fours in 14 balls before being bowled by Janakpur’s Canadian bowler Harsh Thakar in the fifth over.
Then, Chadwick Walton fell to Mohammed Mosin’s LBW. West Indies wicketkeeper batsman Walton was dismissed by Pakistani-origin bowler Mohammad Mohsin, who plays cricket in the US, in the seventh over.
In the next over, Jimmy Neesham also caught Zeeshan Maqsood LBW for zero. Then Babar Hayat and Gulshan Jha tried to increase Karnali’s run. But Babar was out after scoring only 12 runs in 14 overs after playing 25 balls. He could not hit any boundaries.
Gulshan Jha scored 36 runs. Before being bowled by Kishore Mahato in the 16th over, he hit 1 four and 3 sixes in 27 balls. In bowling, Mohsin from Janakpur took 2 wickets, while Kishore Mahato, Lalit Rajbanshi, Harsh Thakar and Jimmy Nishus took one wicket each.
Two matches are being played in the NPL tomorrow. Sudurpaschim Royals and Lumbini Lions will compete at 9 am and Chitwan Rhinos and Pokhara Avengers will compete at 1 pm.
